Shortly before 11:00 p.m. Friday night, a San Antonio Police Traffic Officer William Kasberg, an 8-year veteran, was working in the area of Culebra and Waverly when he saw a white Honda and attempted to stop the car. The officer activated his emergency lights and the suspect fled. The officer was joined by a secondary officer and together they pursued the fleeing car.

The suspected DWI driver drove onto Gen. McMullen, Hillcrest then south on Fredericksburg Rd. while speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. While going south on Fredericksburg Rd., the fleeing suspect encountered traffic congestion and attempted to go around by going onto on-coming traffic from the northbound lanes. The suspect hit a truck travelling on the northbound lane. The suspect, the only occupant of the Honda, was killed on impact. A third vehicle was also involved in the accident.

The only occupant of the truck was the driver who was transported to University Hospital while the driver of the third vehicle, the only occupant, was treated and released at the scene. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s. Positive identification has not been established and next-of-kin has not been notified. Neither of the 2 officers involved in the pursuit sustained injuries.
